In reports there may be changes on the way for iPod owners and those who plan to purchase iPods. Apple is in discussions about making the favorite download site iTunes partially free for iPod users. Rather than paying at iTunes, iPod users will be paying more for the model of iPod they choose to purchase.

While this has not been decided for sure, Apple, EMI, Sony BMG and Warner Music would not make comments about this as late as Wednesday.

In statements from David Pakman the CEO of eMusic who is a rival of the online music site iTunes commented that his concern lies with the fact that Apple may take advantage of the monopoly it has in the digital player market.

IPods represent about 85% of the digital music market online today.  If this current plan that has been leaked in some competitors thoughts, if bundled with music from iTune downloads that would be considered anti-competitive according to David Pakman.

In other Apple/iPod news the world’s most expensive iPod that has been donated to a charity auction that was held in London, United Kingdom. Filed under: Adobe Photoshop — Tags: , , — apolloapps @ 8:31 pm

In Adobe Photoshop news of interest,

The company XChange International has recently released a new plug-in that is called Xfile 2, in this new plug-in for Photoshop there are some new and exciting capabilities that enhance the Photoshop program. These new functions allow features that have not been easily done in the past or ones that could not be done in the past using Photoshop.

In the Xfile 2 plug-in users will find the ability to do image resizing, this includes any and every image in a photo. As well as seam carving abilities, this allows resizing while keeping the proper ratio. There is also the ability to remove or add to a photo and with Xfiles 2 there are two protect and erase functions.

This plug-in also has utilities that allows the users to upsize and enlarge photos or down size including making images smaller. Each of these changes can be viewed at every step to ensure the photo has the changes that are desired.

This program has in its program mathematical algorithms that give Xfile 2 the ability to perform these functions and do them properly and this new program is formatted to work with the Photoshop programs from Photoshop 7 through Photoshop CS3.  I have to admit, this is a pretty cool program. I think that even Adobe has outdone itself with this one. I can certainly recommend it.

The Latest Adobe and Apollo Apps Headlines

Adobe Systems has officicially announced that it will come in a platform later in 2008 for use with Linux. CEO Kevin Lynch has announced this big news at the companies Engage Event that took place in San Francisco of what this programs next platform will be after more testing. The firm is quite excited to bring Adobe Air into other formats, the annoucement stated..

This program that is a runtime and allows varied web applications is at this time a windows only based program. Apparently the corporation looking for Linux users to test the Linux version that is in an alpha format prior to placing it on the market. Along with this they are striving to have Air on mobile devices in the near future.

The big question appears to be whether or not this particular App will be available on iPhones anytime soon. On this question Lynch passed the ball on to the Apple Corporation, but the goal is to Air everywhere it would appear based on the official statement, although this is not confirmed.

Speaking of the Apple Corporation, there have been  some fascinating reports coming out lately  about a panel which has formed to discuss a rise in crime (or in this case iCrime) in the past few years, these crimes are robberies, for the most part.

These researchers have theorized that iPod users may have become major targets to a particular type of criminal, with their unique earbuds. It does not only make them an easier target because an individual who is listening to their music is less likely to pay attention to what might be going on around them   but it also tells the criminal that they are in possession of a popular small appliance that is easily resold.

While there is not exactly a plethera of data to support this there is some and it shows that among the younger thieves iPods are a popular item to steel, they are an expensive item that is popular and can easily be resold.

To further prove this the a group of teenagers were responsible for approximately 20 iPod muggings and the data for New York subway muggings for iPod and mobile phones has also increased.

Alright now back to Adobe related news….. They have broadcast the new Web 2.0 development tool, an integrated Runtime or Air, which in the past was Apollo and with this it brought some concerns by security experts.

This all comes from the remote attacks that were associated with Firefox vulnerabilities, much of the concern lies with the local access by the Air applications.

Adobe’s reply to this is that they have implemented a sandbox background, however there is evidence that there is less security with this and that could give some developers a false sense of security when using this program.

One of the features of these program apps is that the have to be digitally signed as this can be completed by anyone. It basically leaves individuals vulnerable in the situation that they are apt to run un-trusted apps. Without heeding these warnings, leaving them open to remote attackers.

To explore and inform users in security when using these particular apps Adobe has links to a few articles, however for users to protect themselves and to be aware of this situation they need to know the articles are there for them to protect themselves from the predators.
